Renovating a lawn is necessary when weeds take over and the ratio of actual healthy grass is low. The process of renovation is called slice seeding. The lawn is mowed as short as possible and the debris is removed. The lawn is dethatched to remove further debris. Dethatching will also loosen the soil which will be the start of developing a loose seed bed. The lawn is then core aerated. Aerating will further loosen the soil and provide the perfect seed bed. The areas are then mechanically slice seeded in 2 directions to ensure a uniform seeding pattern.
The final steps are to apply starter fertilizer and lime. Soil conditioning additives may be necessary if a soil test reveals poor soil qualities.
